What is email list validation and why do you do it?

Customer Services

If you have chosen our optional Email Distribution Service, then list validation is an automatic check we perform on every contact list you upload. We do this to ensure your eCards are sent as effectively as possible, to protect your sender reputation, and to provide a positive experience for your recipients by cleaning the list before the send.

What specific issues do you check my list for?

Our system scans every email address in your list for three main things:

  • Syntax Errors: Incorrectly formatted emails that would fail anyway (e.g., missing an ‘@’ symbol or a top-level domain like ‘.com’).
  • Duplicate Addresses: Any identical email addresses within your list are removed so that a person doesn’t receive the same eCard multiple times.
  • Known Invalid Addresses: We check against our network records for emails that are known to be inactive, have previously bounced, or are identified as spam traps.

Why is my final send count lower than the number of contacts I uploaded?

This is a normal and positive result of the validation process! Your final count will be lower because the system automatically removes the duplicates and invalid emails identified in the step above. This is beneficial because it means you are only sending to a high-quality list.

Can I see a report of the validation results?

Yes. Once the validation is complete, you will be able to see a detailed summary showing a breakdown of the changes. This report includes:

  • The original number of contacts you uploaded.
  • The final number of valid emails ready to be sent.
  • The number of invalid emails that were removed.

What are the main benefits of validating my list?

Validating your list before sending is a crucial step that leads to:

  • Higher Delivery Rates: By removing bad addresses, more of your eCards will successfully land in the inbox.
  • A Protected Sender Reputation: Sending to a clean list prevents high bounce rates, which makes email providers (like Google and Microsoft) trust you as a sender.
  • A Better Recipient Experience: Your contacts won’t be annoyed by receiving multiple copies of the same eCard.
